Unique regional context
Quebec's southern region, along the St. Lawrence River, is Canada's dairy heartland. Over 4,000 dairies thrive in this fertile floodplain between the Laurentian and Appalachian mountains.
Progress
We have invested in supply shed projects in this region since 2021. In 2024, we engaged over 20,000 acres in programming to advance regenerative agriculture.
How we’re supporting regenerative agriculture in this region
In Quebec, we’ve partnered with Logiag Inc and Regeneration Canada to support regenerative agriculture education, 1:1 coaching, and peer learning for farmers. Through these partnerships we are working to engage with dairies on reducing emissions associated with milk production. The program focuses on evaluating on-farm GHG emissions and developing customized plans for farmers to reduce emissions and improve economics of production. Working with Logiag on whole-farm GHG modelling, and an initial group of 32 dairy champion farmers, we are finding that farmers can reduce emissions while improving profitability and resilience. Furthermore, we are supporting Regeneration Canada in fostering a community of farmers working collaboratively on sustainability to learn from each other what works best on their farms.
