France

Our supply shed in France is primarily based in the northwestern Hauts-de-France region.

Unique regional context

Hauts-de-France is a cool and wet region of France. Farmers here grow a diversity of agricultural products though they are facing pressures to simplify. French dairy farmers are implementing practices like cover cropping and rotational grazing to enhance productivity while supporting the ecological connectivity and diversity of the region.

Progress

We have invested in supply shed projects in this region since 2024. In 2024, we engaged over 5,000 acres in programming to advance regenerative agriculture.

How we’re supporting regenerative agriculture in this region

Since the establishment of the Haagen-Dazs factory in Hauts-de-France, General Mills has collaborated with the Prospérité Fermière Ingredia cooperative and its farmers to transform high-quality milk into ice cream. General Mills and Prospérité Fermière Ingredia are progressing together to support farmers in regenerative agriculture journey for greater climate resilience, biodiversity protection, and water resource preservation.
In 2021, General Mills and Prospérité Fermière Ingredia agreed to a five-year pilot partnership to support 10 dairy farms as they introduce regenerative management techniques on their farms.
Each participating dairy farmer receives personalized coaching and technical assistance from Bureau Technique de Promotion Laitière (BTPL), and customized action plans that integrate regenerative agriculture principles. Principles include minimizing soil disturbance, keeping the soil covered, rotational grazing and feeding cows a diverse mix of crops. The project includes regular measurements to understand the positive impact these actions have on ecosystem quality (soil health, carbon storage, increased biodiversity and cow well-being), in addition to farmer economic resilience. Group meetings occur several times per year to share knowledge and on the ground experience between peers.
In 2024, General Mills and Prospérité Fermière Ingredia signed a new partnership aiming to reduce carbon emissions through optimization and regenerative management. Fifty dairy farms in the Hauts-de-France are included in the program, and receive financial incentives and individualized technical support.
